Mission Statement

 Sacred Heart  -  Waseca

Sacred Heart Parish is a community of men, women, youth and children who believe in Jesus Christ. We strive to live the gospel values of love, justice and peace through prayer and worship, education as expressed in Catholic teachings, thereby serving the needs of each other and others, and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus by our lives. Through these ministries we make Jesus present in our world. In all of these we seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

History

Sacred Heart Parish was founded in 1869 by four men, Thomas White, Jerome Madden, John Collins, and Gottlieb Buchler in Waseca, MN and is a member of the Diocese of Winona which was established in 1889.  The first church was erected on the site of Sacred Heart in 1874 and faced south.  The current church was built in 1899.  The parish dining room and cafeteria was added in 1956.  A fire damaged the choir loft and pews and a portion of the wood floor in 1965 leading to a remodel in 1966.  The handicap accessible entrance and greeting space were added to the north side of the church in 1992.  The last update to the sanctuary and modernization of the church took place in 1998.  There have been 11 pastors in the history of Sacred Heart Parish with Monsignor Treanor leading the faith community for 52 years.  Father Martin Schaefer is the current Pastor.
