History
Sacred Heart Parish was founded in 1869 by four men, Thomas White, Jerome Madden, John Collins, and Gottlieb Buchler in Waseca, MN and is a member of the Diocese of Winona which was established in 1889. The first church was erected on the site of Sacred Heart in 1874 and faced south. The current church was built in 1899. The parish dining room and cafeteria was added in 1956. A fire damaged the choir loft and pews and a portion of the wood floor in 1965 leading to a remodel in 1966. The handicap accessible entrance and greeting space were added to the north side of the church in 1992. The last update to the sanctuary and modernization of the church took place in 1998. There have been 11 pastors in the history of Sacred Heart Parish with Monsignor Treanor leading the faith community for 52 years. Father Martin Schaefer is the current Pastor.
Facilities
The first church building was completed in 1874 and the
first parish your. The parish house located next to the church was completed
in 1880 and rebuilt in 1950 and remolded in 1996. The School was built in
1886 and replaced in 1923 as home for elementary through High School students.
The present elementary school was added in 1957. The convent was built in
1923 and remodeled in 1998.
